William Vance
Nichols
William Vance Nichols, a native of
Purlear in Wilkes County, North
Carolina, has been pursuing his love
of art for the last several years. His
favorite subject are rural landscapes,
but he also branches out in many art
endeavors such as painting murals,
paintings of racing figures, and
commercial art work. He was employed
for several years with a major
hardware chain and did various
commercial art projects for them.
"The discipline required to
produce high quality commercial art
projects prepared me for the taxing
vocation as a free-lance artist."
Nichols received art training from
various sources including studying
commercial and fine arts at
Appalachian State University. He likes
to think that much of his talent comes
from self training. The years he
taught art at Wilkes Community College
also opened other avenues for more
exposure to different art forms. Trips
to New York, Washington D.C.,
Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Raleigh
on art-related seminars and field
trips with students increased his love
of art and the desire to pursue his
art career.
"My main desire is create
something noteworthy out of everyday
surroundings, mainly farm scenes and
wildlife. It has also been my
privilege to render several Nascar
racing greats. The sports paintings
gives me another avenue to touch
people with different interests,
however, my main love for subject
matter is still with rural
America."
"I have been in many group and
one-man art shows and to-date have
reproduced many limited edition prints
which has helped in dispersing my art
work." |
